Red-rooted sage

Salvia miltiorrhiza, known as Red-rooted sage, is a flowering plant native to China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia. It belongs to the family of the asteraceae. The roots of the plant are called Danshen and have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2000 years. The roots of the plant contain over 200 active substances, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Among the most important are salvionolic acid and tanshinones. The plant is characterized by its fleshy and red root. The leaves are blue to purple in color. As it is part of the modern Chinese pharmacopoeia, it is also commercially grown.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like compound. It acts in the mitochondria of cells and contributes to the conversion of energy from food into chemical energy ATP and is responsible for “cellular respiration”. The Englishman Peter Mitchell was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1978 for his research on coenzyme Q10.

Vitamin E

Antioxidant. It helps protect cells from oxidative stress. It is fat-soluble and can be stored in the body in excess in fat stores.

Thiamin
