What is creatine?
Creatine is a protein formed by the liver from the amino acids arginine, methionine and glycine. The liver produces approximately 2-3 g of creatine per day. It is also found in small amounts in foods, such as red meat.

Creatine deficiency generally does not occur easily, but in some cases (e.g. during intensive strength training) supplementation may be necessary.

What does creatine do in the body?
Creatine is stored mainly in the muscles and is quickly available for energy production during intensive training. The effect of creatine depends on the amount available in the muscles. A beneficial effect is achieved with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine.

Creatine is a cofactor in the formation of ATP. ATP is an energy molecule that is created in the mitochondria.

As a derivative of an amino acid, creatine is part of the amino acids that give proteins their shape and properties.
