Lactoferrin is the body's own iron-binding protein, found in mucous membranes, the respiratory tract, and the gastrointestinal tract, among other places. The word "lacto" refers to its richest source: milk. The word "ferrin" refers to lactoferrin's important ability to bind iron.

In addition to its ability to bind iron, lactoferrin also has antimicrobial, immunomodulatory properties. Thanks to these properties, it is an important part of the immune system and overall health.

As humans, we ingest large amounts of lactoferrin shortly after birth through colostrum, the first breast milk. Even later, breast milk still contains very high amounts of lactoferrin compared to the amount we ingest from dairy products. Our bodies can also produce lactoferrin on their own. We can stimulate this production by exercising on an empty stomach, preferably by strengthening the arms.

What is lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is a protein that is naturally found in various body fluids, such as breast milk, saliva, tears and nasal mucus. It is also found in some animal products. Here are some sources of lactoferrin:

Breast milk: Breast milk is the richest natural source of lactoferrin. It plays an important role in defending newborns and supporting a healthy immune system.

Dairy products: Although the concentration of lactoferrin in cow's milk is much lower than in breast milk, it still contains a small amount of lactoferrin. Colostrum, the first milk after a calf is born, is particularly high in lactoferrin.

Eggs: Eggs also contain small amounts of lactoferrin, especially in the egg yolk. However, the lactoferrin content in eggs is lower than in breast milk.

Beef: Beef is a source of lactoferrin, but its content can vary. It is mainly found in cow's milk, but small amounts are also found in meat.

Lactoferrin deficiency?
Your body makes its own lactoferrin, but sometimes and under certain circumstances, it can use some extra. There is a possibility that consuming processed foods can negatively affect your lactoferrin intake. Regular stress and lack of exercise can also affect a person's lactoferrin supply.

Mattisson lactoferrin in capsules
Mattisson lactoferrin is 95% pure and is packaged in capsules resistant to stomach acid, which only open in the intestines. This guarantees that it remains effective. This product does not contain LPS (lipopolysaccharide). LPS is a substance that occurs naturally in lactoferrin, but reduces the activity of the protein.

This dietary supplement contains 300 mg of lactoferrin in one capsule, but for greater requirements you can also choose our 500 mg variant.

Recommended dosage:

Take 1 capsule once a day during or just after a meal and drink it with a glass of water. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
