The Latin name Ganoderma Lucidum means "shiny skin". In China, this mushroom is also called the "herb of spiritual power". Reishi grows as a parasite on deciduous trees, but can also grow on dead tree trunks. The color of Reishi is red and due to its shine it looks as if it has a layer of varnish on its surface.

Reishi has been used in traditional Eastern medicine for over 2,000 years. Reishi also contains triterpenes and polysaccharides.
