What is astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin Nataxtin™ is a dark red pigment produced by a single-celled algae (Haematococcus pluvialis) and is a carotenoid. This Blood Rain algae grows in lakes, rock pools, ponds and Arctic seas and is also known as "red gold". Astaxanthin protects the algae from external influences. Astaxanthin is the reason why salmon, trout, other aquatic animals and even flamingos have a pink color. Astaxanthin is vital for these animals.
What is astaxanthin in?
Astaxanthin is a naturally occurring carotenoid and is found primarily in microalgae such as Haematococcus pluvialis. These algae are the main natural source of astaxanthin. This pigment is also found in seafood such as salmon, trout, shrimp and crab. Eating these foods can help you get astaxanthin.
What are carotenoids?
Carotenoids are a group of natural pigments found in plants, algae and some bacteria. They belong to a group of phytochemicals, also known as bioactive compounds. Carotenoids are responsible for the bright red, orange and yellow colours of many fruits, vegetables and flowers. The best known carotenoid is beta-carotene, but there are other important carotenoids, such as alpha-carotene, lutein, lycopene, zeaxanthin and astaxanthin. The source of Mattisson Astaxanthin is completely natural from Haematococcus pluvialis, grown in the South American Atacama Desert. This dietary supplement contains 8 mg of astaxanthin (Nataxtin™) per capsule. The capsules also contain MCT oil.
Recommended dosage:
Swallow 1 capsule 1-2 times a day with water. Not suitable for children under 14 years.
